Even in a limited week of MLS action during the international break, PDL alums still managed to shine for those teams that did take to the field on Saturday afternoon and evening.
It was a good day to be a Red Bulls player, as three made the cut as top performers in week four of MLS action. In the team’s 3-0 rout of Minnesota United FC, PDL alums made a big splash in all three phases of play. In goal, Luis Robles pitched another shutout, making four critical saves along the way. In defense, Tim Parker helped marshal the back line to help preserve that shutout while also assisting the team’s second goal of the night. In attack, Alex Muyl shined as he scored the game-winner in the 15th minute before assisting the team’s third late in the second half.
Elsewhere, Jacori Hayes picked up his first career assist on a Roland Lamah goal in FC Dallas’ 1-1 draw against the Portland Timbers. Finally, Khiry Shelton picked up a critical, stoppage-time assist on Diego Rubio’s last-ditch equalizer after some nice hold up play and a clever back-heel.
Check out the top five performers from week four of MLS play below.

In a battle of Western Conference powers, 90 minutes wasn’t enough to separate FC Dallas and the Portland Timbers. Part of that was thanks to Portland Timbers U23 and D.C. United U23 alum Jacori Hayes, who picked up an assist on Roland Lamah’s lone strike for the hosts. The assist was the first point picked up in Hayes MLS and professional careers.

Not unexpectedly, Robles makes his second appearance on this list in 2018 with another clean sheet in net for the Red Bulls. The ironman goalkeeper made four saves on his way to the shutout, and kept the door shut as the Red Bulls busted through the Loons defense to the tune of three goals.

While Robles was holding it down in the rear, Alex Muyl was helping to lead the Red Bulls ferocious attack in the other direction. The young homegrown midfielder was a key orchestrator of the team’s offensive success, picking up the game-winning goal in the 15th minute, before later assisting Bradley Wright-Phillips second of the night late in the second half.

Are you noticing a trend yet? The Red Bulls PDL alums dominated in goal with Robles, in attack with Muyl and in defense with Tim Parker. The latter’s efforts helped Robles keep the Red Bulls defense organized and effective, while also contributing to the three-goal effort. Parker picked up an assist on the Red Bulls’ second goal of the night, Bradley Wright-Phillips first of the evening, to help secure the club’s win.
Started, played 90 minutes and recorded ONE ASSIST in Sporting Kansas City’s 2-2 draw vs. the Colorado Rapids
Sporting Kansas City seemed all but lost entering the half in their weekend match against the Colorado Rapids after going down 2-0 within ten minutes of the opening whistle. An early second half goal from Felipe Gutierrez would breathe life back into the visitors, which would be taken advantage of by Khiry Shelton. In stoppage time, Shelton’s hold up play and back-heel flick in the box set up Diego Rubio to strike home a last-ditch equalizer and salvage a draw for Sporting KC.
