USL League Two side FC Golden State Force boasted the unique opportunity to face the U.S. Men's National Team on Monday as the latter prepare for two upcoming friendlies in the coming weeks.
Golden State traveled to the Chula Vista Elite Training Center on Monday morning for a series of scrimmages against the Stars and Stripes, which currently features 10 former League Two players. Among the current USMNT players that previously played in League Two are Aaron Long, Gyasi Zardes and Corey Baird.
Meanwhile, a number of current and former Force players made up the team's squad for the friendly, including Daniel Amo, Alvaro Madrigal, Daniel Trejo and Ricky Ruiz.
Force Executive Director Alex Lujan believes the opportunity was immense for the club and its players, who had the chance to gain a glimpse of the highest level of play in U.S.
"Gregg [Berhalter] called me about a week and a half ago," Lujan said. "He was looking to replace a Liga MX team they had planned to play in a friendly. Unfortunately the timing did not work out for the initial date, but we were able to get on their schedule for this extended friendly session.
"We were honored to have been a part of their January camp and help our nation's finest prepare for future matches."
