TUCSON, Ariz. (Jan. 14, 2020) — FC Tucson has re-signed 19-year old goalkeeper Rafael Guerrero for the 2021 USL League One season, the club announced today, pending league and federation approval.
“We are delighted to have Rafa return to FC Tucson for his 3rd season with us on a Youth Academy contract,” said FC Tucson Head Coach John Galas. “He’s such a hard-working, bright, intelligent young man who continues to grow as a person and goalkeeper. This is a great environment for him to continue his development and we couldn’t be more excited to work with Rafa in 2021.”
Guerrero, 19, is the youngest player from the 2020 roster and becomes the first goalkeeper to be signed for the Men in Black’s 2021 season. The Tucson native began his soccer career playing for the local youth soccer club FC Tucson Youth, formerly known as Tucson Soccer Academy.
“I’m very excited and honored to re-sign for the 2021 season,” said Rafa Guerrero. “As a Tucson native and a former FC Tucson youth player, I’m very grateful and proud to have the chance to represent my hometown. Can’t wait to get to work and compete this season.”
Guerrero also developed within the Real Salt Lake Development Academy, logging 17 career starts, and playing alongside former FC Tucson defender Tommy Silva. The 6-foot-1 goalkeeper later joined the Crossfire Premier Developmental Academy in Redmond, Washington before joining FC Tucson in June of 2019.
