Both teams scored in a furious final five minutes and stoppage time to share the points in a USL League Two contest between FC Tucson and Ventura County Fusion on Saturday night at Kino North Stadium.
Despite FC Tucson having most of the chances in the first 45 minutes of the 2-2 draw, Ventura took the lead in the 45th minute when Marley Edwards found himself wide open in front of goal and made it 1-0 Ventura.
The Men in Black came out storming in the second half and equalized on a goal by Vilius Labutis in the first minute of the second half after receiving a pass from Jose Contell.
FC Tucson continued to push forward and hold off Ventura’s counterattacks before netting its second goal in the 89th minute when Munier Hussen rocketed a free kick along the ground that Fusion keeper Tetsuya Kadono could not reach.
But the scoring wasn’t over as Logan Ferrington converted a contentious penalty in the fourth of six minutes of stoppage time.
FC Tucson will return to action on June 28 when they travel to Capo FC. The Men in Black will be back home at Kino North Stadium for a 7 p.m. kickoff on July 3 for Fireworks Night.
