Tucson, Arizona- A brotherly match against the University of Arizona Men’s Soccer Club took place for the FC Tucson USL League Two Men’s club. One of the FC Tucson players, D’andre Pickett, faced off against his older brother Estevan Pickett, a defender for the University of Arizona. This match also featured FC Tucson Chief Operations Officer, Kyle Cornell, pitted against the FC Tucson club as he is the head coach of the University of Arizona team.
The game started quickly for FC Tucson as William Arnesen continued his success from the last match as he tallied a goal just as the first minute ticked it’s conclusion.
While the rest of the first half was slow for FC Tucson, the boys in black were able to get off 15 shots on goal in the first half while holding Arizona to only 2. Goalkeeper Alex Svetanoff had a diving save as the University of Arizona Men’s Soccer Club took advantage of a misaligned FC Tucson defense. This shot on goal was one of the only dangerous moments the Arizona team was able to create during the first half. Alex Svetanoff would go on to register a clean sheet for the rest of the match.
As the 2nd half began, William Arnesen scored his 2nd goal of the game, and 3rd goal of the season in the 48th minute. Arnesen also tallied an assist on the night. After that point, FC Tucson would register another 6 goals in the match in the 2nd half. Joao Nevis would end with 2 goals, while Mateo Soto, Elian Aguilar, and Ismael Ruiz would each record a goal for the match.
FC Tucson tied the franchise record in margin of victory Sunday night as they moved past the University of Arizona Men’s Soccer Club. With a final score of 8-0, FC Tucson matched a 2013 home win with the largest margin of victory for the club.
