TUCSON, Ariz. (March 10, 2019) – FC Tucson opened its preseason with a 2-2 draw against defending WAC conference champion Grand Canyon University this past Saturday. Forward Guillermo Delgado registered a goal in the ninth minute, while trialist Devyn Jambga scored the equalizer in the 68th minute.
WHAT TO KNOW
In the 68th minute of play, midfielder Devyn Jambga used some aggressive dribbling moves to blow past GCU defenders and set himself up for a 1-on-1 with the goalkeeper. Jambda then beat the goalkeeper to the far-left post, tying the match at 2-2.
The match saw its fair-share of shots on goal in the first 45 minutes of play. GCU midfielder Pambos Aristotelous tallied the first goal of the contest in the 6th minute, making it 1-0. However, forward Guillermo Delgado equalized the match in the 9th minute. The host team eventually took the lead again in the 12th minute thanks to a goal from Tosh Yasuda.
The second half of play proved to be much more difficult for the Antelopes. They crossed midfield just three times in the second 45 minutes, registering a lone shot on goal. FCT was on the attacking-end for majority of the second half, tallying five shots on goal and the equalizer from Jambga in the 68thminute.
FC Tucson will have a week to recover before their next preseason match against Sporting AZ on March 18th. The match will be played at the Kino North Stadium, the match is free and open to the public.
