TUCSON (June 8, 2019) — FC Tucson ended its homestand with a 0-0 draw Saturday night at Kino North Stadium. The club is now unbeaten in four straight home matches.
WHAT TO KNOW
Both clubs spent the first 45 minutes getting a feel for one another. In the 20thminute, midfielder Andrew Wheeler-Omiunu sent a beautiful cross over to Luke Hauswirth who found Zach Wright in the box for a prime opportunity. But the strike was intercepted by Kickers’ goalkeeper Akira Fitzgerald.
Richmond attempted to answer right back with a 1v1 matchup with Phillip Ejimadu, however, the 19-year-old Ejimadu put his body on the line and denied a potential Richmond score.
Tucson used several counter-attacks in the second half in hopes of finding the back of the net. In the 57th, defender José Terrón found teammate Kyle Venter on a set-piece and Venter scored what looked to be the opening goal. But the goal was negated due to an offside call.
FC Tucson is back in action on Wednesday, June 12th, when the club travels to Orlando, FL to face-off against Orlando City B at Montverde Academy. It’ll be the third meeting between the two clubs. On May 31st, FC Tucson tied OCB in a thrilling 2-2 draw at Kino North Stadium.
