FC Tucson Signs Defender Jimmy Filerman

TUCSON, Ariz. (Feb. 16, 2021) — FC Tucson announced today that the club has signed 24-year-old defender Jimmy Filerman, pending league and federation approval. Filerman will be the club’s fourth new addition ahead of the 2021 USL League One season. 

“Jimmy is a dynamic attacking left back that fits the profile we look for in that position,” said Head Coach John Galas. “ We are thrilled to welcome him to the club and I look forward to working with him this year.  I think the fans will love his style of play, and his high pressing energy.”

Filerman joins FC Tucson after a successful 2020 campaign with Detroit City FC of the National Independent Soccer Association (NISA), of the third tier of American soccer. A native of Vienna, Virginia, Filerman began his professional career with Detroit City FC after signing on August 11, 2020 following standout performances during a trial in their NISA Independent Cup run.

“I am extremely excited and thankful for this opportunity. I am really looking forward to arriving in Tucson and getting to work,” said Filerman. 

The 24-year-old won two club trophies in his first year of professional play, helping lead Detroit City claim the Inaugural NISA Independent Great Lakes Region Title, earning Man of the Match honors and tallying an assist in his start. In addition, Filerman helped the club claim the Fall NISA Championship, earning the start in a 2-1 win against the now USL Championship side, Oakland Roots SC.

Before joining Detroit City FC, Filerman played 18 matches and tallied three assists in USL League Two play. The defender’s experience includes two seasons of play within USL League Two, playing the 2018 season with the Cincinnati Dutch Lions and the 2019 season with Seattle Sounders U23s. Filerman spent the 2019 USL League Two season playing alongside FC Tucson forward Shak Adams. 

During his time within USL League Two, Filermen played four years of NCAA Division I soccer at Old Dominion University (ODU) from 2015-2019, recorded six goals and eight assists. During his senior season Filerman was named second-team All-Conference and finished tied second for shots with 18. Filerman was also featured on SportsCenter Top 10 on November 9th, 2017 at the number four spot with a volley from outside the 18- yard box.
