TUCSON (August 17, 2019) — FC Tucson wrapped up its six-match road trip with a 1-1 draw against South Georgia Tormenta FC at Erk Russell Park. 

WHAT TO KNOW

●      Forward Jordan Jones scored his fifth goal of the season, matching the team leader in goals (Devyn Jambga). 

●      FCT registered a 75% percent tackle rate.

Both teams struggled to establish an attacking presence as the two sides combined for just three shots on target, including two penalty kicks. 

In the 78th minute, forward Jordan Jones netted his fifth goal of the season from the penalty spot to make it 1-0, following a hard foul inside the box. Jones has converted on all three of his chances from the penalty spot this season.

In the opening minutes, midfielder Jamael Cox got an early look on goal after bypassing a North Texas defender with some impressive dribbling moves. Cox took a right-footed strike from 20 yards out but saw the attempt sail past the near-post. 

Minutes later, Cox sent a cross over to forward Devyn Jambga who barely missed the back of the net with a glancing header. 

Despite the missed chances, FC Tucson made their presence felt early by registering four shots on goal within the first 35 minutes of play.

FC Tucson’s stood tall early bringing a high line of pressure to the home side as the Flamingos of Forward Madison were unable to progress the ball into Tucson’s attacking third. 

On loan from USL Championship side Phoenix Rising FC, forward Ben Spencer recorded two early shots that nearly found the back of the net but both were saved by Madison’s Brian Sylvestre.

In the first minute of play, Devin Vega sent a corner kick into the box in an attempt to execute a set-piece. Forward Jordan Jones was the first FCT player on the ball. Forward Devyn Jambga broke away from the three-way tie for first place in the club’s Golden Boot Race. Jambga currently leads Tucson with five goals, followed by Devin Vega, Kyle Venter and Jordan Jones with three goals.

Midfielder Jamael Cox increased his minutes total to 1,170 following his 13thstart versus Greenville Triumph SC. Defender Kyle Venter ranks second on the club with 1,080 minutes, followed by Devyn Jambga with 1,019 minutes.
