Tucson, Arizona (Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2020) – FC Tucson have acquired 20-year-old Jordan Pena on a season-long loan from USL Championship club Real Monarchs pending league and federation approval, the club announced today. Pena joins FC Tucson after making 12 appearances with 10 starts and playing 831 minutes during Real Monarch’s 2019 and 2020 seasons.
“I am very excited to join this talented group of guys and I am looking forward to being able to play a role in the rest of the team’s success this season,” said Pena. “It’s a huge pleasure to be here in Tucson.”
Pena, a Utah native, developed through the Real Salt Lake Academy starting in 2015. He featured for the Major League Soccer club’s U-17 side for two seasons and for the U-19 side for another two seasons. The midfielder played 22 matches and scored three goals before earning his first professional contract with Real Salt Lake’s USL affiliate, Real Monarchs. The 20-year-old made his professional debut in a 5-0 win over LA Galaxy II.
Pena joins FC Tucson following a 2019 USL Championship winning season where the Real Monarchs defeated the two-time champions Louisville City FC in the USL Final, marking the Utah club’s first piece of silverware win in the USL.
“Jordan has just joined us on a season-long loan from RSL’s Monarchs and we look forward to getting him integrated with the group. We believe he will add quality and depth to our team for the remainder of the year,” said FC Tucson Head Coach John Galas.
The midfielder has primarily played the No. 6 role and has chosen to wear the number 27 for the Men in Black. Pena will be available for selection for FC Tucson’s next home match against New England Revolution II, on Wednesday, Sept. 16.
