FC Tucson makes another addition to its midfield with the signing of Charlie Machell.
The club announced Thursday the signing of 27-year-old Machell, who previously played for Oman Professional League side Al-Ittihad Club.
“I’m very excited to join a club that has huge potential to be successful this year and in the future,” said Machell. “I’m very lucky to be able to work with quality coaches and players, and I can’t wait to play in front of the FC Tucson fans.”
The England native started playing in his youth with Newcastle United. He then went on to play for Wingate University where he appeared in every match his first two seasons, and was named South Atlantic Conference Player of the Year and NSCAA third-team All-American as a sophomore after scoring 12 goals.
He transferred to East Tennessee State University where he helped propel the team to its first appearance in the NCAA tournament.
