Tucson, Arizona- FC Tucson has secured its first playoff bid since 2021 earning a 1-1 draw with Coachella FC on Sunday evening. Heading into the matchup, FC Tucson also secured their bid to host both USL Western Conference Quarterfinal and Semifinal matches in Tucson at Kino North Stadium this Friday
Heading into the half time break, FC Tucson was down 1-0 after a half that saw FC Tucson control both possession and attacking chances. FC Tucson’s breakthrough finally came when Duvan Canchilla delivered a corner kick to the far post for Tucson native D’Andre Pickett to head into the back of the net for his 2nd goal of the season. Despite chances for both teams, the match ended tied 1-1, officially punching FC Tucson’s playoff ticket.
Nils Roth, the former Pima Community College star and FC Tucson Youth Coach, made his first start of the season as goalkeeper. Roth had a stellar performance with 7 key saves to preserve the draw. FC Tucson is now unbeaten in their last 8 matches.
The first round of the playoffs will kick off Friday, July 19th at 5PM when Ventura County Fusion takes on Albion Colorado. FC Tucson will play Flatirons Rush at 7:30pm. The winners will meet in the Western Conference Semifinal match on Sunday, July 21st at 7:00pm
