TUCSON, AZ – FC Tucson’s 2025 USL League Two Playoff run came to an end Sunday night with a 2-0 loss against Western Conference Rival, Ventura County Fusion.
FC Tucson advanced to the Western Conference Semifinals after a dramatic victory over Almaden FC on Friday, July 18th. Following a scoreless 90 minutes, Tucson native Leo Gutierrez (FC Tucson Youth/ Pima Community College) assisted by Mateo Soto (FC Tucson Youth/ Pima Community College) broke the deadlock in extra time with a well-placed headed finish to give FCT the lead. Almaden responded with a late equalizer, sending the match to penalty kicks. Goalkeeper Matheus Rhormens delivered a standout performance in the shootout, saving three penalty attempts, while another Almaden shot missed wide. Filip Arras and David Boccuzzo each converted from the spot, securing the win and a place in the Western Conference Semifinals for FC Tucson.
FC Tucson finishes the 2025 season with a record of 7-2-3, including a strong undefeated home record (5-1-0) that propelled the club into the playoff picture.
As the club shifts its focus to the offseason, FC Tucson is committed to building on the momentum of this year’s success. Efforts will center on strengthening the club’s foundation, deepening its connection with the community, and continuing to grow the vibrant culture that has made FC Tucson a cornerstone of soccer in Tucson and the greater Southwest region.
