FC Tucson’s commitment to community health deepens this month as they join forces with Visit Tucson and an Arizona teen to bring Pass It On to Southern Arizona.
FC Tucson will be collecting donations at every home match for the remainder of the 2021 season, beginning this Saturday when the club hosts USL League One opponent, North Texas SC (7 p.m., Kino North Stadium). Attendees can bring new and gently-worn gear and sports clothing to collection bins which will be distributed to kids in need.
“This alliance is a unique opportunity for our community to come together and eliminate the barriers facing kids who would love to play youth sports,” said FC Tucson President Amanda Powers. “Tucson is one of the most generous communities I’ve ever been a part of, and we’re excited to play our part in helping to keep kids active and healthy.”
Pass It On is an Arizona non-profit organization that collects new and gently-used sports equipment and clothing for children in need. They’ve given the equipment to a variety of organizations; see http://passitonsoccer.net/events for snapshot of past events and donations.
Wade Crum, now 16 and a soccer player for Phoenix Rising Youth, founded Pass It On when he was 13. He was inspired to create his nonprofit after wanting to donate his own soccer clothing and equipment to kids who need it and not finding an organization dedicated to that mission
“I’m excited to use the collective resources of Pass It On, FC Tucson and Visit Tucson to help children in need in Tucson get the sports equipment that they lack,” said Crum.
Luchie Javelosa, Director of Tucson Sports for Visit Tucson, is excited to bring this initiative to Southern Arizona. “At Visit Tucson, we’re deeply aware of the power of sports, so the opportunity to make connections between great organizations to benefit the youth of this community is something we’re thrilled to be a part of.”
For an opportunity to donate to Pass It On, join FC Tucson on Saturday, August 14 at Kino Stadium. For tickets and more information, visit www.fctucson.com/tickets.
