USL eCUP to be Broadcast Live on ESPN
FC Tucson’s matches in the upcoming USL eCUP Rocket League Edition Tournament will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
TUCSON, AZ (April 1, 2020)–With a season on pause, FC Tucson is still finding ways to compete. Starting tomorrow April 1, FC Tucson will be participating in the first ever USL eCUP Rocket League Edition Tournament now to be Broadcast live via ESPN and ESPN3.
The tournament will see representatives from 32 USL Championship and USL League 1 clubs compete in the popular video game Rocket League in a World Cup style tournament from April 1- April 24th. FC Tucson’s first three matches in the tournament will be in the group stage on:
4/3 @ 11am PST against the Greenville Triumph;
4/7 @ 3pm PST against Indy Eleven;
4/10 @ 11am PST against the Las Vegas Lights.
Each match will each be broadcast live on ESPN at the following link:

Representing FC Tucson in the tournament will be Rocket League sensation Trent Wieland. Trent, an FC Tucson supporter, is a senior at the University of Arizona and has been competing in and winning national Rocket League tournaments since he started playing back in 2016. Said Director of Soccer Operations for FC Tucson Jon Pearlman, “This is a historic signing for our club. FC Tucson prides itself on talent identification in all facets of our illustrious club. Trent Wieland is a champion brought here to bring us a championship.”
Trent is a senior at the University of Arizona, double majoring in criminal justice and public administration. He’s been playing rocket league since 2016, and has reached spectacular heights within the competitive scene. He was one of the few that qualified for the $100k NBC tournament in 2017, and in 2018 he led his collegiate rocket league team to a national championship. He was born and raised in the Chicago area, and has been a soccer fan all his life. Since coming to Tucson for college, he has become a huge supporter of FC Tucson, and Outside of the USL he is an avid follower of the premier league and supports Tottenham Hotspur.
The tournament is another example of how the USL is forging community through new spheres. While many pro sports leagues take a pause on their respective seasons, the USL and it’s club continue to pursue new and creative ways to engage their fans and compete.
